Services

free civil legal services to people in poverty who reside in Olmsted County or who need help with a legal matter properly venued in Olmsted County through the following programs. Other services are also offered in Dodge and Fillmore counties.

• Qualified applicants receive direct legal services from LAOC attorneys. See our practice areas.
• LAOC’s Volunteer Attorney Program (VAP) connects volunteer local attorneys with qualified applicants.
• LAOC offers a variety of free legal clinics. Because of Covid some of these clinics are being held remotely.  The intention is to resume in-person clinics when it is safe and permissible.
• LAOC partners with the Olmsted County Law Library to host clinics at the Law Library.
• LAOC partners with the Dodge County Court to offer monthly family law clinics at the Dodge County Courthouse.
• LAOC partners with Fillmore County Social Services to offer monthly family law clinics at the Fillmore County Social Services Building.
• LAOC partners with the Rochester Women’s Shelter to offer free weekly legal clinics at the Women’s Shelter.
• LAOC attorneys staff a weekly landlord-tenant clinic where people receive landlord–tenant advice and, in appropriate circumstances, full representation in landlord-tenant matters.
• LAOC partners with the Rochester Public Library and Elder Network to offer a “Wills Clinic” for senior citizens.
• LAOC partners with FATHER Project (Fostering Actions To Help Earnings & Responsibility) through Olmsted County Social Services providing clinics to help non-custodial fathers with legal issues such as paternity, custody, and parenting time.
• LAOC partners with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services to provide an Eviction Clinic at eviction hearings at the Olmsted County Courthouse.
• LAOC partners with Intercultural Mutual Assistance Association to provide legal clinics twice a month.
• LAOC has a new partnership to hold clinics with the Jeremiah Program.
• LAOC partners with local volunteer attorneys to offer child support clinics every other month.
• LAOC also manages a Landlord/Tenant Hotline.
